Activity Grouping

Choose how finely Cadence splits the activity on your Timeline, from one block per app to individual pages and files.

Activity Grouping controls how much detail you see on the Timeline. The recorded time does not change. You are choosing whether the same stretch of work appears as a few broad app blocks or a more detailed sequence of sites, projects, pages, and files.

Choose the right level

  • Grouped: one block per app. A continuous stretch in Chrome reads as Chrome, even if you moved between several sites.
  • Smart: splits browser work by site and supported desktop apps by project. This is the default and the best balance for most people.
  • Detailed: splits browser work by page and desktop work by file, with each recognised project named. Use this when you need the closest view of what changed during the day.

Change the grouping

  1. Open Tracking settings
    In the desktop app, open Settings, then choose the Tracking tab.
  2. Choose Activity Grouping
    Select Grouped, Smart, or Detailed. Each option includes a preview of the same stretch of work so you can compare the result before choosing.
  3. Return to the Timeline
    Cadence reloads the visible day using the new level. Your time entries, totals, and raw activity are not rewritten.
Start with Smart
Smart keeps the Timeline readable while still separating the sites and projects that usually matter. Move to Grouped when you want a quieter overview, or Detailed when you are reconstructing a day closely.

The first time Activity Grouping becomes available, Cadence shows a short guide that can take you straight to this setting. After that, you can always find it under Settings > Tracking.
